Why does school suck?

I say to myself, I hear others rant about it in the halls, in classrooms, at home, around town.  Why does school suck? This is one of those life long questions that no one ever seems to figure out. Can anyone answer this question? Has school/college been designed this way? Designed to discourge people from learning and successfully taking in information and applying it to their life? When do you ever apply anything from school to your life besides simple math(addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and english. Or is all this information we’re gathering in small boxes for hours on end really pointless at the end of the day.  I sit in class bored to death listen to a teacher who probably doesnt want to be here either. Where does this all really apply? When will I need triganomerty? When will you need to know world history when your sitting behind a desk at a seven to five job listening to your boss pressure you for those weekly reports about where the money went for his yaht. Yes we can use this information on game shows but in the real world do you really need to know  the square root of t(a/2)/n? Can you ever really use this information to advance your career?  Maybe, if your an accountant!

I am a film major and I’m on my fourth year of college and I must take so many advanced hours of classes that are pointless to my major.  Why must I do this, there is no relevance. Yes I learn a thing or two but are those things really that significant and life changing? Plus it cost money to learn this stuff. Do I really need to pay so many thousands of dollars to learn life lesson that I could learn on my own?

Emergence Update 13: BIG Update Coming Soon!

It suddenly got really cold today. I’m not a big fan of cold weather especially when one day it is hot and humid, and the next it is cold and rainy. That is one of the cons of living in Texas.

One of the pros of living in Texas is the great actors and actresses you get to work with to make an awesome webseries. This brings me to my next point-we have some HUGE news coming within the next two weeks. The first of that news is that we have a new name. This name is registered and ready to go but our logo is currently in development.

In addition we have something else big planned for you but unfortunately I can’t tell you…just yet.

We expect to have this all released within the next two weeks. We look forward to sharing it!

P.S. Elephants are big, almost as big as this update we’ll have.

Emergence Update 12: Music & Color

Hey all you Emergence Fans! This is my first post in like a month or two. I have been very busy with school and the movie and I am sorry for that, but life is very crazy as you all know.

Anyway I have finally sent out some of the episodes to our Composer, Juan Carlos Enríquez. I havent heard from him yet but He has episode 1, Episode 2, and the trailer all ready for his amazing compositions. I cant wait to hear what he has to compose.  Also I have already colored Episode 1&2 and I will start coloring the rest of the four episodes in the next two weeks.  I think we are actually ahead of schedule.  Our original plan was to have everything ready for the Primere of Episode 1-6 by January 1st, but at this rate we should have everything up and ready to go by December.  Things happen so who knows.  We’ll just have to wait and see. I am hoping to have the Trailer up ASAP.  I know you all are ready to see it and so I am.

For those who have seen my past work I think you will be amazed on how far we came in just a Year. For those who haven’t you will still be amazed!

Emergence Update 11: We’re alive!

For those that may have wondered, we are still alive. The zombies haven’t gotten to us yet. I did see one at TCU today, luckily I pulled some ninja skills on it. You can never mess with the ninja. He’s fierce.

Now i’m sure you’re asking “what’s been going on?” Well, let me tell you…

Lots of stuff, just nothing we can show. I believe editing is basically done besides post-processing and coloring effects. Then our composer genius will take a stab at it and put out some epic music. We’re still on target for a December or January release for the FIRST SIX episodes. Keep in mind these will only be shown in the local movie theater. You won’t see them online until next year when all the episodes have been completed.

Emergence Update 9: Photos Up!

I have good news to everyone out there with the fantastic privilege of being a fan of Emergence on Facebook! We have posted 121 new photos from the Emergence Episodes 2 and 3 filming. Unfortunately we don’t have any available on here yet, that won’t be until we get the new website up and running (more on that in a bit). Head over to Facebook and search for “Emergence: Episodes.” Leave us some comments and tell us what you think!

I’ve also been working pretty heavily on the Reel Mind Films logo and it is about 95% completed. We’ll post it up here when it is finished. The next thing will be to start the website and we hope to have that live by September or October.

We also have a new Twitter page for Reel Mind Films. We need followers so check us out at www.twitter.com/reelmindfilms .

Emergence Update 8: The Long Haul

For the past three days I have been trying to recapture twenty minutes worth of footage so I can edit it into Emergence Episode two and three.  AAAHHH!!!!  I tried a video tape deck and no such luck.  Let me give a shout out to EYECON VIDEO PRODUCTIONS for letting me borrow their HDV Tape Deck.

From bad to worse we just might have to re-film the two biggest scenes in both episode 2 & 3. I am praying it doesn’t come to that but I just might.  All crew and cast that read’s this be prepared to re-film scene 15 Episode 2 and scene 3-6 Episode 3.

That was the post I was going to post  a week ago and turns out that we will have to re film the 2 biggest scenes in episode 2&3.  We have all of episode one filmed besides one scene that we just decided to cut altogether. I have edited almost half of episode one.  I am currently on a trip in Miami, Florida and when I get back I plan to finish up editing episode one that same week.

I want to think all my CAST & CREW and the people who gave something to make these films happen.  With all of you and your hard work and passion for film these three films would of never been finished so smoothly, well almost finished!

Emergence Update 7: Episode One In Production

Filming of Episode One began today. We had a few issues early on with a camera but the problems were soon worked out and filming began. Schedule fell a little behind but we feel confident about tomorrow’s shoot and believe we can get it all finished by the end of the day. All in all things seem to be going well.

I’m getting real excited about this particular episode because it is so vastly different from episodes 2 and 3. Episodes 2 and 3 were focused around suspense and action and they keep the audience on the edge of their seat. This one is more relaxed and is intended to scare the audience rather than make things action-packed. The main focus of this episode is to be somewhat of a grace period between the events of the prologue and the fast-paced feel of the rest of the web series.

Emergence Update 6: Episode 1 Writing Begins

As the post-production of episodes one and two move forward full steam ahead, we’ve started working on Episode 1. Austin has been working on the edits and i’ve been writing the next story getting his input as we go along. We’ve now finished the outline and the script will start coming together tomorrow. The plan is to have it all finished by Thursday then it is all down to figuring out a schedule (hopefully one that is more accurate than the last).

I think everyone will like this episode because it is a HUGE change of pace from episode 2 and 3. For those working on episode 2 and 3 you’ll remember it had a lot of humor, a lot of blood and a lot of action. Episode 1 is more subdued as it focuses on suspense and genuine fright. We want this one to get everyone jumpy in preparation for the roller coaster ride that is Episodes 2 and 3. Episode 1 is also going to be a lot shorter coming in at around 10-15 minutes so the plan is to have it shot in a weekend. We’ll see how that goes…

We’ll be keeping everyone posted on the happenings behind the scenes. Stay tuned for information from the prologue!
